Childs Room Design

A child’s room should be FUN!! The way to get there is following a fairly simple process of child safety and common sense. Once you’ve established those two areas for your child then personalize the space for them.

Often young children enjoy the idea of a theme room. This can be anything from their favourite activity such as dancing or music for girls, or sports and cars for boys. Depending on the age of your child be sure to make them a part of the decorating process when possible. Don’t give too many choices because that only goes to confuse them, but an offer of “this” or “that” will allow them to feel they are participating and that’s always good for self esteem.

Be sure to use child friendly materials that are durable, washable, hygienic and can be easily disinfected if need be. Keep your flooring choices simple, and you can jazz up that area with wonderful area rugs or play mats. Children love to sit on the floor too so throwing in some beanbag chairs or similar seating that is small in scale for them is always a big hit. Have a toy box that can be multi-functional. A padded seat can be attached to the top with toy storage inside. A bookshelf is great for not only encouraging your child to read books, but for displaying any arts & crafts they have made or trophies or awards. Be sure to attach the bookshelf to the wall firmly to avoid any tipping over and an unnecessary accident. A chalkboard area on the wall can be another fun activity. A small coat hook bar attached to the wall is great for encouraging your child to pickup after themselves and hang a coat or cap.

Organizers!!! A parents dream come true if used to its full potential. Have plenty of organizing boxes or containers that help your child sort out his or her room. Always clearly label them so your child can understand. If your child is too young to read, then sometimes a colour coding system will work well for them.

To have healthy young adults that can be independent in the future, its necessary to give them guidelines and choices as young as possible. Children catch on quickly and encouraging them to play in their space and be responsible for taking care of it is a Life Lesson well taught.
