The Color Palette ~ Friend or Foe?

For a lot of us this is where our decorating adventure can come to a grinding halt. Color selection doesn’t have to be scary, but if your unsure of what to pick then ask for assistance from a friend or color professional at your local paint store.

After the decisions have been made about furnishings, flooring, or bedding you can then go onto pick your colour palette and wall colours. A useful tool in this area is the Color Fan Deck that your local paint store uses. These Fan Decks can be purchased for a nominal fee or can often be signed out for the day so you may take them home and look at the colour choices in your own space. By doing this it eliminates the need for taking your pillows, bedding, or slipcovers up to the paint store to try and make your color selections.

If you are redoing a main area of the household such as a hallway, living room, or kitchen it is important to consider the overall floor plan, and the flow between these spaces when selecting your wall color. You will want to ensure that your color choice will be complimentary to future decorating projects so that one room flows nicely into the other. If you have a very separate or distinct space such as a dining room, bedroom, or office that is perhaps closed off with French doors or a new ceiling line, then that would be your opportunity to select a distinct color palette for that particular room.

Your Color Palette can be your best friend when done correctly and carefully considering all aspects of your room, or it can be your worst nightmare if not done well. Good Luck!
