Furniture ~ Function or Dysfunction?

Furnishings are one of the biggest expenditures you can have during a redecorating project. After the budget has been established, the furnishings will need to be evaluated as to whether existing furniture will be reused or new furniture is to be purchased.

Before any new furniture purchases you’ll want to look at the overall function of your room, the purpose for which you intend the space to be used most. For a lot of families today our rooms can have multiple uses and therefore our furniture must also be multi-purpose as well.

For your room to be a success you’ll want the “function” of it to work well too. So often we can start buying furniture and just “plunking” it in the room and hope that it fits in well. Why work so hard on creating “dysfunction”. The whole purpose of a room makeover is to not only make it look better, but we want it to function better as well.

The “flow” of your room is important as well. Furniture placement is key in accomplishing this goal. An awkward seating arrangement can have people bumping or banging into things. Conversations and visiting can be made difficult by a poor furniture layout. Don’t be afraid to sit in your furniture and give it a try, if its not working then move it until you have the “flow” and “function” you want in your room. Have the right furniture in the right places and you’ll have a success!
