From Asian to Mediterranean, Indian to Scandinavian, South Western to Tuscany, an International Style can bring its own uniqueness to your space that will be inviting and exciting not only for you but for whomever visits your home.
An International design style doesn’t have to mean that you have roots of origin from a specific area in the world, but rather you enjoy the colours, designs and history that is part of your particular design choice.
Your decision of an International design doesn’t have to mean that all the elements in the room have to reflect your design choice, but rather you can choose very specific items and colours that have your specific International flavour. Perhaps for example your lamps, rugs, pictures and flowers are Asian inspired but your sofa and chairs are not, there are enough elements to reflect Asian without every feature being so.
For some of us an International or theme inspired space must have as many features as possible included in the overall style. For others simplicity is the key, having only specific items showcasing the overall theme. Along with an International design comes the excitement of finding sources and places to shop too assist you in locating décor that reflects your specific International design. If your lucky enough to have family or friends that have a history with the style you have selected, that can be a great resource that is very unique. An heirloom piece is a great find for whichever Design style you have chosen.
Utilize your local library, club association, or Internet to research the area you want to replicate within your home. You might be surprised with what you learn and it could end up being the “best” little bit of information that you could have ever found. An International design can be somewhat of a treasure hunt if your décor is not readily available in your area, but pursuing your sources to find exactly what you want is well worth the effort in the final results.
If your room is going to be designed around your personal travels make sure to use your collectables and souvenirs from your trips to personalize your International design. If you travel often to a specific place then those trips become great opportunities to pick up fabrics, artwork, and ethnic pieces to bring home, and the fact that you travelled and picked them out personally makes your room even more unique as well.
Not everyone has the desire for an Internationally inspired room in their home, but for those of us that do … You won’t be disappointed. Don’t stop only at International décor, but venture out by trying new and exciting foods, wines, and music from the area as well. This particular design has no limitations. You’ve set the mood, created the design, now enjoy your amazing space!
