Should your living room function lend itself more to the formal or entertaining only kind of space, then you have different kinds of options available to you. The use of furniture pieces that have a real design factor might be used or custom pieces will allow you to use unusual or high end fabrics and textiles. The more formal living room usually has a very selected seating arrangement based on conversation areas as opposed to a less formal living room where perhaps viewing the television was the major factor in that room.
Area rugs are used to define the space as well as add colour, warmth and texture. Remember to keep in mind the use of your living room space so that your choices will be most appropriate for your home and your family. Lighting should consist of some task lighting for reading and mood lighting can be established with pot lights, track lighting or floor and table lamps. For that extra special surprise in the corner of a room a small floor light sitting behind a plant or small tree adds extra ambiance in the evening, leaving a shadowy image on the wall and ceiling.
Pictures always personalize a living room showing off family favorites or displaying your individual tastes in artwork. Accessories such as candles, collectibles, pillows, and unique decorative pieces will complete your living room and make it uniquely your own.
Living rooms are for living and for some of us that means flopping on the couch and watching t.v.. and for others that means a place to showcase and entertain. Your living room space will be one of the most used rooms in your home so keep that in mind when making all your selections.
